Should You Purchase Economy Fares?

Maybe – but you need to understand all that is not included in the basic economy, bottom-of-the-barrel, no-frills fares.

It may not include checked bags, seat assignments and perhaps you can’t even bring aboard a carry-on. Check the frequent flyer miles also as you may not earn anything on those cheap fares.

I recently flew from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas on Spirit Airlines. Spirit is a leader in no-frills fares. I was pleasantly surprised because I knew ahead of time what to expect. I knew I could only carry-on a backpack. I knew I may get a middle seat (I didn’t). I knew any drink, including water, would cost money.

I expected a bad flight but the fare was so cheap, I figured I’d accept two hours of misery to save a couple hundred bucks.

The flight was enjoyable and I’ve taken them a few times more since that first flight.
